Superbowl Party

First superbowl party I've attended in quite a few years, as I'm usually the one hosting. This year our youngest daughter held her first Superbowl party, and it was a big HIT. Great food,, friends and family. Where I go, my cakepops follow. Made footballs for the first time, and they were not easy. Since they were bigger than normal cakepops, difficult to dip. I can see why specialty cakepops come with a bigger price tag, very time consuming. Always fun seeing what you can do. My 12x12 cakepops stand made room for some mini cupcakes also.

Meet My New Cakepop Stand

Here she is, nice and big, my newest Cakepops101 Cakepop stand. She will be debuting today at my Granddaughter Ella's 8th birthday party in the park. Let me tell you a little bit about her. She measures 12x12 and can hold up to 36 Cakepops, or a combination of Cakepops and Cupcakes. You are able to add ribbon around the base, and the best part, any 12x12 scrapbook paper ready for any celebration with endless decorating possibilities, for those of you in the scrapbook world know what I mean. The papers alone can make you crazy happy! I still am going to add a personal birthday tag, along with more pink ribbon, because as a girl you can never have to much pink! Check out the little clear purses I got from one of my favorite stores ever, ABC decorating in phoenix and the cute little crowns. Non edible, however I did dip them in some chocolate to give them some color. I also filled the little purses with cookies that spell out Ella's name. That's a post I will share later. Don't ever throw away a frame or even an old mirror. This was a mirror to an old dresser that wasn't getting used, and you know I can't turn down turning anything into a chalkboard, and magnetic too! Thanks to my hubby for doing all the labor prep work, sand, prime and paint. Then we got a piece of sheet metal cut to size. Primed the sheet metal then rolled on some good ole chalkboard paint. I may still distress it a bit to give it more of a shabby chic look and it will hang in the basement family room. Everyone loves them for doodling on and even writing a few love notes here and there. I'm Thinking about selling a few of these on Craigs list so stay tuned.

There's a new kid in town. She's called Babycakes Cakepop maker. If you love eating cakepops, but you don't want all the work of baking a cake, adding icing and rolling Cakepops, here's a new quick way, and they are just as sweet. Well maybe not quite as sweet as you don't have to add the traditional icing. You use any box cake mix. I found that brownie box mix is the best. With this cute little BabyCakes Cakepop maker, you can have 36 Cakeballs in less than 15 minutes. Then all that left to do is the dipping. Nice and easy..... Also whipped up some Red Lobster Cheddar cheese garlic balls, with this fun little baker. So many possibilities.

My niece's Elizabeth attended one of my Cakepops101 Classes them summer. She decided to put her new Cakepop talent to work for her son's Ashton's first birthday. Ashton is now my littlest fan. These pictures of him eating one of her Cakepops are so cute, from beginning to end. I love each one of his expressions. I think my favorite one is the black and white one with the color Cupcake pop. Adorable.

Found a yummy 4th of July recipe on Half Baked the Cake blog. Although I didn't have the tall shot glasses I did have some small desert cups for my Stars and Stripes Cheese cake desert. Simple and sweet, that's what I needed. First time working with Puff pastry so I wasn't quite sure how my stars would turn out, but not bad. Topped them off with some chocolate dipped strawberries. Just put on a pot of fresh coffee and we are good to go.

Another project crossed off the list---TWO Projects

We have been in Illinois at our little farm house going on our 4th week. Each summer trip out we set a few goals of what we want to complete while there. Two projects that topped our to do list, were facelift for the little laundry/mud room and add an island to our already beautiful country kitchen. Proud to say we have finished BOTH, with two days to spare.... One day left for general clean up around the property and one day for packing up the truck. Didn't buy anything....surprise so we should be taking back exactly what we brought.
I really enjoy making something look the best possible, so the laundry room was in need... It had orange viynl, bright orange, and a bright gold door leading out to the garage. The entire room 9x12 got primed and then painted, new floor and baseboards, new fan, and new electrical. Quite the under taking for such a small room. So happy with the outcome. So thankful to have a husband who jumps right in and helps with it all, and he can do it all beautifully. This first picture is one half of a cabinet that hung on the wall.. yes my father hung it many many years ago, how do I know this. Well it had a total of 12, yes that was TWELVE lag bolts, I think a 300lb person could of hung from it with no problem. It had to came down. Will build new shelving next trip out.

This is a picture of the VERY dated floor. Just got tired of looking at the color ORANGE, so yet it had to go also... new wood floor to replace. Pergo wears so well I love it.

No more bright yellow door, nice and cream.

We will be building a little wall around the AC Unit so you don't have to stare at all the PVC coming out of it.....sorry dad I know you had a plan here.

My best remodeling partner EVER! I love that he dives right in to help me and we don't kill each other doing it. I'm very lucky!

I purchased this simple little hutch a few years back at Hobby Lobby. I'm going to paint it black, but that will have to be next trip I think.

The kitchen gets a new island. When we had the kitchen remodeled a couple years ago, we ended up with two 36 base drawers that weren't quite square, so Menards just let us keep them, that was a BIG score, as they were $375 each. I knew that I eventually wanted to make an island with the. Well it happened finally this trip. Charlie, bolted the two of them together, heck remember we had 12 extra lag bolts we could use from my dads wall cabinet. Then I ordered a new counter top, (won't be in till after we leave) . Then we had some left over beadboard, and since the cabinets had beadboard doors, this would be perfet to trim out the ends of our new island. They were primed, then two coats of paint, and trimed out and new drawer pulls. Love it to pieces! Now there is a 38x50 working surface. I now my dad has to be smiling down on this one. He loved to cook and I know he would be proud of what Charlie and I have done to improve what we can.. We have put our heart and souls into it. I'm blessed to be married to a man who understands what this really means to me.

Busy busy week with work, and trying to keep up with my Easter Cakepop orders. Thanks to my awesome assistant, I managed to get them all done and delivered on time. The egg cakepops were fun decorating with all the various chocolate and sprinkles color options available. They sure do make for a Great desert to take to a family celebration, so yummy they sell themselves. I do enjoy making them, but believe I will enjoy teaching how to make them much more. We shall see come May 2.

Like my little Cakepops don't keep me busy enough, I discovered these beautiful daisy cookiepops first on TheTomkat's Studio, then really fell in love with them when I watched them being made by Sweetopia . Always loved sugar cookies, but hers are over the top beauties. They caught my eye right away, as when I got married, my bouquet was daisies. I'm gonna try to make these, wish me luck. Also fell in love with the TomKat Studio, named after her two children, Tom and Katherine, she was featured on HGTV Easter brunch layout, it definitely makes you want to be there, surrounded by yummy goodies everywhere. Now I'm not going to attempt any of that, but sure fun to dream a little. You must also check out the birthday party she gave her four year old, better yet, just mark her blog as a favorite, you'll love going there daily trust me. What I really love about this couple, is how they are doing it together. Also they name the pieces they make over. How great is that. When you look that great, I agree they should have a name. I sent my best friend a dozen assorted cupcakes from DC Cupcakes also known as Georgetown Cupcakes. So absolutely loved them. Grandma Marie's Pierogies

One of the many reasons why I blog....After watching all of my mother's and father's memories slowly disapear, I knew I wanted to try and perserve as many memories that I could (both big and small) through the world of blogging. We can take our memories for granted, yet none of us know just how long they will remain deep within us. And who know's maybe one day my great great grandchildren will sit back and read a bit of what I've left behind or better yet cook up one of our favorite receipes for their children. How I would love to have words written by my mother, father or grandparents. When I found this perogie receipe card in my grandmother's own writing it was a true treasure. So today I've decided to make one of Charlie's favorite's, again.

First of all what is Pierogie's?
•A Polish specialty consisting of half-moon-shaped noodle dumplings filled with a mixture, often of pork, onions, cottage cheese, and seasonings. Served as a first course or side dish. Eveyone has their own favorite mixture they like them stuffed with. Ours is the cottage cheese mixture. The store bought perogie's can't even begin to compare. However they are time consuming but a true labor of love.

Lets Begin with the ingredents: Makes 2 dozen
2 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs
1tsp salt
1c. water
1 stick of butter

cheese filling: mix together
1 16oz large curd cottage cheese, drained- dry curd if possible put it's hard to find
1 egg yolk/ save egg white for later use
tsp sugar
nugmet 1/4 tsp (opptional)

To make the dough, mix dry ingredients well, add beaten eggs and water. Once dough separates from sides of the bowl, remove and make two balls, lay on flour cover and let rest for 15 minutes.
Roll dough out to approx. 1/8 thickness. I have a awesome gadget that cuts out the circle of dough then after I've put my t. cheese mixture add egg whites to eggs to allow good seal(this is important so they don't open up while boiling) then the same circle cutter also pinches them shut. My grandmother use to do all the pinchin closed by hand. They would take hours to make, but when ever she came to visit she made sure we make one BIG batch. She got such a kick out of how many Charlie could put away!
After all have been filled, you carefully add about 12 at a time to large pot of boiling water. They cook quick, about 4-6 minutes, once they begin to float they are ready to drain.
I melt some butter in a casarole dish to lay them in, while I brown my butter. This is something you must do slowly, if not the butter will burn. The butter will begin to foam up right as it's getting ready to brown, watch closely, light golden brown, then set aside to pour over the Pierogies. They will melt in your mouth. " Hey Ma what's for dinner?" Cabbage Rolls 101

Someone once told me they thought that a good name for a small diner would be Hey Ma What's for dinner?". So thought I would use it for my blog title. Today's receipe is one taught to me by my grandmother. One of Charlie's favs. About as easy as they come to make, and even better left overs.
Took step by step pictures to show just how easy they are to make.
Ingredients are 2lbs ground beef. 2lbs ground pork, 1 1/2 cups long grain rice, large can diced tomatoes, chopped onion, 3 large heads of cabbage. the bigger the better. Beef broth. Jar of sauerkraut, opptional. I make one pot with the diced tomatoes beef broth base and the second batch is the sauerkraut on the bottom of pot, beef broth. both are good, just depends on your preference to the soup base. If you want to make a small batch, the meat is equal parts, so you would do 1lb beef 1lb pork, probably reduce rice to 3/4 cup. .. top it off with some fresh baked bread and you have a meal for a couple of days.

boil large pot of water to blanche the cabbage, this allows them to

pull off nice and easy. Only needs to be in the boiling water about 5 minutes, you will

see the cabbage opening up.

Mix, ground beef, pork, rice, salt and pepper.

portion the meat into balls a little bit larger than golf balls. they can be bigger if you have nice big cabbage leafs to roll.

Roll up like you would a burritto.

makes about 2 1/2 dozen

Add to pot, opps. In the pot is onion, large can of stewed tomatoes, and beef broth, just enough liquid to cover rolls cover with lid, and simmer on low for about 45 minutes. You can taste one if rice is done, your good to go.

What a beautiful day to celebrate Zella's birthday at the park with family and friends. Jill's decorations were awesome, and love that I have a dil who loves to create as I do. Her Happy Birthday Banner was so adorable, gonna have to make one myself for my blackboard, seems like we are always celebrating someone's birthday. That's one of the joy's of having a big family. Fun day, Zella is growing up so fast

I decided to make my cake pops from Bakerella. They are so easy and a big hit. Thanks to a friend who introduced me to Bakerella's blog. The possibilites are endless. Course you also learn as you go along, I must admit I've dropped a few pops off their sticks into the hot melting chocolate, only to have my grandaughter shoot out "grandma I'll eat that one!". I was lucky to get the new Bakerella book for Christmas. filled will so many ideas, most of which i know i'll never make, way to much detail. but I take after my father and his love and obsession for books, espcially the ones with great pictures. If you have time, take a moment to read Angie Dudley's story, inspiring for sure. Hey when Martha Stewart has you on her show you know you've created something special. For me the payoff is just putting a smile on someone's face after they've eaten one of my little goodies, but if Martha ever calls hey......I'm there.

Christmas Day at our house

I was up at 5am to begin the family Christmas dinner. Most preped the night before but still alot yet to do when your cooking for a big bunch. Stuff the turkey, make the dressing, roast the prime rib, make the gravy. Rolls done, pie done, veggies done.  Charlie assits with the final meal prepping.  I've always loved cooking for my family and our Holiday meal together is very special to me. Still lots of time to relax together, enjoy our coffee and share our personal gift exchange with one another. Our 35th Christmas. We are blessed.

The kids began arriving.....one by one. We started the pictures of course as each family arrived. Never can have to many pictures at Christmas. We ended up taking over 100 pictures. The little ones waited patiently with great anticipation. Organizing the gifts and getting ready to tear in.  They went full blast opening their stacks of gifts. Don't think they would ever be able to take turns opeing one gift at a time as they watched one another. Maybe one day when they get alittle older. Its fun now watching them at this age.

We decided this year that the adults would draw a name for secret santa and also have our first ever white elephant gift exchange. Great decision. This was alot of fun and guessing we will do it now every year. Lots of stealing going on as all the gifts were great choices. It was a wonderful Christmas and we are blessed to be able to share it together as a family.  The house is quite now, I'm worn out and unfortunately have to work tomorrow. Need to decide how long to leave up the decorations. hmmm What a Merry Christmas! Perfect

Charlie pulled out our first sony digital camera. One we bought years ago because it had a great zoom for sports. He decided to read up on the many other features it also had that we probably never used. It's a big camera, but took some great close up pictures. I had Ella look into one of the reflective ornaments so he could capture a bit of a differnt angle. I like how it turned out..

I love my chalk board, but even more than ever now. My hubby brought power to it, along with a time switch. Doesn't get much better than that. Every holiday will be up in lights!

Thirtyfour years ago we were blessed with our first child, our son Charlie. It was a cold snowy winter night in Danville Illinois when I went into labor. Charlie was working a night shift at an elementary school maintaince. We were trying to recall how I contacted him to let him know I was on may wayt to the hospital, (no cell phones way back then) neither one of us could recall, hence the importance of journaling. We both we unsure what to expect, and excited at the same time. A last minute decision was to deliver the baby by C-Section, baby's head appreared to be to big to fit out. Lucky me, very little labor but enough to know I was happy not to have to experience much more. Our Healthly baby boy came into the world at 10:38pm. We were both so young, but eagar to begin our lives as new parents.
Tonight we celebrated Charlie's 34th birthday with him, his family and a few close friends. We are so proud of the fine young man he's become. You can't really ask for anything more than that. The years pass and before you know it your children have children of their own. Family memories are the best.

Ok two steps forward and one back. Helped Charlie with front yard landscaping. The great thing about desert landscapping is you can get away with doing it about every 3-4 months, however we did manage to fill the entire back of his truck bed. Then off to the dump to unload. Ok I have to confess the guy unloading right next to us left me something that i was compelled to bring back home. You've heard of Trash to treasures. Couldn't resist. Two picture frames and an awesome file box, I did throw out the all the guys court papers he left in it tho.

Getting Organized and then some

My 21 day challenge begins today, with getting organized. I'm sure this stems from my childhood, and not liking clutter. By no means am I a neat freak, however clutter free and organized makes me smile and smiling is always a great end result. So I begin day one of my 21 day challenge packing away my little Halloween treasures until next year. Which of course also means moving on to unpacking my little turkey's. oh yeah also need to change my blog background......

Well I know it's been at least 6 months or longer that I found this great 35x47 frame at Hobby Lobby with the glass broke out and knew i wanted to make something with it. But it stops being a great find if it sits empty on the floor for 6 months. I put some of the blame on my son Randall as he was going to get me a large piece of sheet metal for it from a coworker. Well months went by and no sheet metal. as it didn't look like Randalls friend was going to come through for me. Plus I just got tired of moving the large frame around as it kept getting it the way laying on the floor. I knew i wanted to make a magnetic chalkboard. Every day i drive right by a sheet metal business so I decided to throw the frame in the truck and stop to see if I could get a piece of metal cut to fit.. I was able to get a custom cut that fit perfect. Next stop home depot to get a piece of thin mdf cut to go behind the sheet metal to give it a tight secure fit. I also purchased a can of spray primer, very important. This must go on any piece your going to use chalk board paint with. 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of chalkboard paint rolled on. Before pulling out the chalk, Wait 3 days for paint to cure, this is also important. Put it all together, hung it in our hallway to have fun with. Now just got to finish my halloween banner as it's the middle of october already!.

Although it's still in the triple digits here in Arizona, I think it's time to start pulling out the fall/halloween decorations. We can at least dream of fall and the colors changing. Here's a favorite Halloween project. The only cost is perhaps the canvas, everything else comes from what we all have, our scrapbook stash. I started with a 16x20 canvas from Michaels. Primed it with Gesso, as this helps the scrapbook paper ahere better. I also painted the canvas orange for all the exposed areas. I cut 2x2 and 2x4 pieces of my scrap papers, added some halloween embelishments and fun ribbons. The best part is I've taken halloween pictures of the grandkid over the years and resized so they are small enough to randomly add to the canvas. They enjoy looking back at all their many costumes. I may need to make a bigger canvas.

So easy and so much fun knowing your using up product you already have tucked away in those drawers.

Subway Art Party!

I love the look of subway art. thanks to Jen at tattertots and jello for hosting a Subway Art Party. There were several ideas that really caught my eye. The romance and also the addresses. Since we've been married over 35 years wasn't sure I would be able to remember the actual street addresess but we did recall all names of the streets we lived on. I purchased a 2x4 piece of MDF at home depot. They cut it in half so I had 2 2x2 pieces. I knew I also wanted to give it a cavas thickness so I purchased 1x2 firing strips, and had them cut into 2ft pieces, giving me a total of 8. I purchased some really cheap paint at Michaels, 99 cents for a bottle large enough to do at least 10, and water based so easy clean up. I used a nail gun and attached the 2ft furing strips to the back of each piece of MDF. Painted black. They are many different ways the actual lettering was accomplished. For my first attempt I decided to use my cricut and white scrapbook paper. After doing a dry layout I then modpoded all the letters. Using a T-square to keep my lines as straight as possible. I let dry then brushed modpodge over the entire piece.
I liked the finished product but my second one will be a variation of font sizes and numbers.

I've already picked my words for the second one celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary, had a photo print made of it until I decide exactly my method for my second subway sign. For now it hangs on our refrigerator.

It was just another day at work, in April 1975, however one that would change my life forever. That night at work our paths crossed for the first time. I was serving drinks, he was sitting in the lounge reading the classified adds looking for a place to rent while playing baseball that summer in Danville. Our meeting was by chance, and had I not been working that night our paths would have never crossed. This is where our story begins. Looking back now I can imagine how shocked my parents were when we told them 4 months later that we were going to get married, not to mention planning a wedding in 8 weeks. Heck back then it took 6 weeks just to get invitations ordered. Surprisingly enough, my parents were supportive of our decision to marry, and gave us a beautiful wedding we will remember and cherish forever. I'm so blessed to have such an amazing husband, 35 years and counting and still the love of my life!

Cooking Lesson 101

So while Andrea was off getting a new hair cut I thought I would put the grand kids to work. Well not really work, I was teaching them both how to cook. You know the verse, "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish he'll never go hungry". How true. Breaded pork tenderloins were on the menu.
first started with thin cut pork chops. dallas tenderized the meat! makes them big and thin. ella floured and seasoned each pork chop, then we dipped in egg bath and breaded with fine bread crumbs. Sauteed slowly about 2-3 min on each side or till golden brown. Sliced some fresh tomatoes, onions and lettuce.
They were YUMMY! and the kids got a good little cooking lesson to boot. Plus Ella originally said she didn't like pork, but I told her all cooks have to try their food before serving to their guests. well to her surprise she liked them!

One of my biggest pet peves is laminate sheets on exposed cabinets. When we picked out the cabinets for our home, we selected Cherry wood. Builder only offered, Maple natual, oak and Cherry. We have a beautiful 12 foot island. Unfortuantely the builder like all builders will cut corners where and when ever they can and finish all exposed cabinet backs with a veneer laminate sheets. I've always hated the laminate. They didn't look all that bad when we first moved in 7 years ago, but over time, Cherry wood will continue to darken, laminate being "fake" wanna like wood, doesn't. So a project that I've wanted to do for at least the last 3-4 years is put real wood on the back and ends of my island and paint them black, as it's very difficult to match stains when using different types of wood species. So with the help of my loving hubby the weekend warrior project was on. All we needed to purchase was the beadboard slates that tounge and grove into one another and a can of black satin paint. We didn't want a shinny gloss finish as the satin gives it more of a piece of furniture look to it. Also replaced the 4 white outlets with black outlets. (**make sure you turn off the power first). We Installed the wood slates in an evening, and painted the next morning. All that's left to do is put back all the wood floor corner round. We love how it turned out but the best part of course is we did it ourselves!

Devils food is the entire families favorite. I love making it in pizza pans, that way you end up with nice thin layers. Make my own icing. Cream cheese, powered sugar and cool whip. Light and fluffy. Starting making cupcakes with same receipe, they go fast. I use the giant cupcake pans, big hit with the grandkids!

This is going to be a great weekend in the mountains. Twentytwo years ago we celebrated our first Russian family reunion. This weekend we gather again in the mountains, hoping for some good weather. I speant most of the night putting together a 20x30 family collage. There are just so many great family photos, and trying to make sure no one has been left out with a family our size. Family is coming as far as Germany and as close as Arizona. Close to 50 of us. A big picnic is planned, food, softball, games, and family pictures. Everyone has rented cabins, and im very excited to see the 5,000 sq foot home we are sharing with my family and my brothers family. 14 of us in all. Sunday we'll have a brunch at our place. Checking off my to do list to make sure nothing is left behind. I volunteered to make the sign for our group photo and come up with a couple of games. The game thing not going so well. But have prizes for family traveling the furtherest, oldest family member, youngest family member, and family with the most members in attendance. Also picked up a Pinata for the kiddies. Lots going on, wishing for a huge success in loving memory of Mom and Dad. We love you now and forever!

It will be two years this month that my mother joined my father in their heavnly home.
today I celebrate her life and her birthday. I miss her so much and cherish the memories I have of her. She was so loving and caring, and family meant the world to her. Most of the pictures I have of her she has a baby on her lap or is loving being with family. She loved her children and grandchildren so much. They always brought a smile to face. I know she would have loved to be able to be a part of their lives growing up but know she has a front row seat from the heavens. Because of her (and my father) we will be celebrating their lives this summer with a Russian family reunion. first in 23 years. They are both responsible for so many lives, hence the saying "all because two people fell in love" When ever i see that quote I think of them.

Dining Train Car and My Home

This is a picture of the side of what used to be my home during my high school years. It has quite a history that goes along with it. My grandmother purchased 4 dining train cars for $400.
She made her home out of them. Built on a bathroom and a small cold wet basement and called it home for quite a few years. Each dining car was a room, master bedroom (lol) kitchen, living room and second bedroom. When my father retired from the Army he thought it would be a great idea to move all 8 of us from a track neighborhood in California bay area back to the town he grew up in Illinois. My grandmother and grandfather left this property to my dad along with 4 acres of farm land. Imagine our faces as we pulled over the tracks and try to figure out where exactly our home was. It was surrounded by big trees of which 5 were apple trees. My room was actually the tail end of one of the cars that was the second bedroom my 4 brothers shared, and measured about 10x6, nice and cozy with a built in bunk bed, a closet and a very small window. It had so many windows that when one of those midwest thunder stoms hit, I truly belived it was the end of the world. You know coming from California weather what did I know. My grandmother was quite the women, who would of even thought this could be done, let alone all by herself.. She was an amazing women who could just about do it all. I'm still looking for more pictues as my brother had it tore down over 10 years ago. He saw it as an eye sore and yes I saw it as so much more, now that I didn't actually have to live in it. but hey could of mad a little bed and breakfast out of it. He locked it up years before he tore it down, to scared to go in as the aminals had taken it over. Well it's part of my families history, some good memories of a simple life lived..

Father's Day

My father has now been gone 10 years. I miss him so much especially today. I reflect back on the man he was and everything he taught me and continues to teach me. I know alot of who I am is due to him. I also know he lives on in my and I'll tell you how I know this. A few days ago I was cleaning his garage once again and trying to take inventory over what to keep and what to donate. Over the last 5 years I have make numerous donations to the humane society thrift store. I imagine I've kept that little store pretty stocked. Last week I filled the back of our truck with more of his stuff, treasures he would call them, but I figure if someone can still make use of these items they won't go to waste. Even loading the truck, I felt my father with me. Going through item by item with care and thinking "will I be able to use this, or will it serve a better purpose in a new home?" Ok I must admit there were still a few items that ended up back on the shelves, don't know why, I'll never use them...ever....but when I touch them and hold them I feel my father. I know it sounds crazy as it's only stuff, but if you knew my father you would understand. When I would ask him why he had a particular item or why so many he would just answer, because I'm gonna need it or someone I know will be able to use it. I think it was partly from coming from the depression years. Raising 6 kids also he never had much, but once we were all out of the house the collecting began, and continued for almost 35 years. Definitely some treasures, and definitely some serious junk, but nothing was junk to my dad. I look at everything now like my dad did, what can I make with that, or what can I do with that. Unfortunately 35 years of collecting and never throwing out is hard to keep organized and even know what you have. I try to keep this in mind before buying anything. So back getting back to my story, I did end up loading up the truck and headed to the thrift store to make my donation. There was a quite large trunk I filled, but wanted it back to fill it again, so I told the lady at the store that i would come back later in the day and pick it up once they were able to empty it out. I return to pick it up and they have two huge dumpsters behind their store that they throw away al the junk they don't want or don't think will sell i guess, so as Im walking by it, low and behold right on top is a little roasting pan and rack brand new that I had in the truck. Ok don't they know good stuff when they see it, Hey is this me talking or my dad...hmmmm so I get out of the truck reach over and grab it! Crazy but it's going back to the garage. That's can't be me that has to be my dad. In five years I have made at least 20 trips to that little thrift store, and have also filled 3 4x8x12 foot dumpsters that went to the dump. I've made great progress but that little pan still has a home for now.

He did have his moments of organization, years before organizing was even in style. Do you know what this is? just one of many of my dad's and now my treasures. I love you DAD!

While cleaning out the garage for about the 5th time, we do it almost every summer we come illinois. I always seen to find something new to hang on to. now does that tell you something. I manage to fill the truck and make a donation to the humane society thrift store and the womens shelter thrift store, but always try to save a little something for myself. this was my find. my typerwriter my father bought me in high school. It types in a cursive handwriting. Great condition and works perfect. Just need to seach out for some new ribbon for it. I still want one of those old tall black typerwriters in working condition, but still happy with this one.

"Not Yo" Mamma's Bananna Pudding by Paul Dean

Came across this bananna pudding desert on one of the blogs i read. It looked so easy and there were over 1,700 comments saying how good it was. Having company tonight for homemade lasagna so i thought i whip it up for desert. Can't go wrong with one of Paula Dean's creations.

A new twist on an old favorite. This banana pudding is delicious and pretty too!
Ingredients:

1 12-ounce container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whip

1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk

1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened

2 cup milk

1 5-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding

6-8 bananas, sliced

2 bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies
Directions
Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.

In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Back in the Midwest

I took my first road trip in over 30 years. Meaning the longest distance I've traveled by car has been 8 hours or less. Working for the airline we have done all of our traveling by air. We didn't want to have to rent a car for a month so we decided to change it up a bit and drive. We had a cooler packed full of good food and drinks, lots of magazines to read, and the best traveling partner ever, my main man. Surprisingly it went alot faster than I had anticipated, doing most of the driving kept me occupied, but my traveling companion charlie is what really made the trip perfect! He can make me laugh at almost anything. here now and taking in all the midwest has to offer. The weather has been great, some rain here and there, but nice cool days so far. First task Charlie took on was get the grass cut. Sure looks good. bad part, gonna have to cut it again in about 5 days. Fields have been planted already by the farmer, growing beans this year, and they've just broke through.

April's Graduation Party

April's graduation party was a huge success, and so much celebrating her big day with family and great friends. My two closests friends flew out, Brenna from Illinois and Gail from Georgia. They were such a big help in making the party go picture perfect. Gail spent several days sewing custom table cloths for the cocktail height tables april rented. They were awesome and made with love. Brenna dipped chocolate, grapes and pretzels the entire morning. She could start her own business with her creations. They are both such sweet dear friends. April had a couple requests, the big one was that I didn't cook, she didn't want me to have to stress and do all the work it would take preparing food for 70 guests. So glad we hired a great caters, and everyone loved the food they prepared. April also wanted a DJ and a Bartender. We weren't to sure about the DJ as we live in a neighborhood and not sure how the loud music would go over. Charlie went and talked to all the close neighbors and they were very understanding. The bartender was the best suggestion, as there was a professional handling the acohol and controled the evening well. Although there was line dancing on the cool deck, no one ended up in the pool. We thought that was a sure thing. Lots of great pictures taken by my daughter inlaw Jill, the are all posted on my facebook. A night to remember for April and everyone close to her. Here's a few pictures of what I did make. Painted two cheap clay pots with chalk board paint, added some gold ribbon and a flower, to hold forks and knives. Made a banner, with a little bling bling also. Never seems to be enough time and should of started a couple weeks earler than I did.

Our baby girl April, graduated last week from ASU College of Nursing. We are so proud of her. It's been a long difficult journey. She has already been offered a job and hasn't even taken the final test needed to be a licensed RN. She is so excited to begin her new and exciting career and have REAL health benefits and not have to pay for them. All of her hard work has definately paid off. Such a honor to watch her grow from a child into a beautiful women. She had a drean and never gave up on it. I know for sure she will make a difference.

More Flowers

Learned how to make the cutest flowers from Rhonna at House of 3. Supplies needed, 1/2 yard fabric, fabric glue, circle pattern and any bling or jewel to go in the center of your flower, most importand a FLAME. Glass of water close by. You may want to start with a candle. I used a torch, the kind you light your candles with or fire place, gave me more contol and more heat. but be very careful as the fabic can burn very easily. The flower is 8 cut circles, two of each size, however you can make it as thick as you want. After the circles have been cut, the fun begins. you fold all pedals out of the way and holding only one slowly move over the flame. The magic is the petals are made by the end of the fabric actually melting. Hot glue on a hair clip or a pin. Amazing and so much fun. I made these for each of the girls on mothers day, and also small ones for the granddaughters. I used a satin, and at 2.99 a yard you can make a basket full. Rhonna recommends the best fabrics to use are any kind of synthetic (like polyester) fabric. I love satin, chiffon or organza for these flowers. You can view Rhonna's complete instuctions here. Watched Rhonna of House of 3 live wednesday night. She had great ideas she shared on making flowers out of fabic. I have lots of sashes that worked perfect for this project. Only took about 5 minutes to make. Add a clip or a pin and it can go on a shirt, in your hair or to emblish one of your favorite pages.

Still working on Getting my craft room orgainzed. such a good feeling.

I spent almost the entire day moving my craft room. April stopped by to help me move a couple pieces of the larger pieces of furniture but when she all all my "stuff" that needed to go back on and in the furniture she politely said "gota go do some stuff mom". she also said "mom you have so much stuff". Then off she went. Charlie hung my large bullentin board for me. I told him if anything should happen to me, make sure my craft maddness goes to someone who will appreciate it. Hopefully that's a long way off and I've still got some craftin to do. Now just need to find a tall table, and shelf out my closet and get some betting lighting. So glad my hubby's retired cus now he's Johnny on the spot to help me with what ever I need. I'm so lucky!

In honor of Charlie retiring, he went golfing for the day and i went and took a class to learn how to solder silver, metal stamp, make charms with glass and solder, wire wrap beads and when it was all said and done 8 hours later had my made a sterling silver bracelet. The class was given by Terri Brush and given at the private home of the owner of Melrose Vintage in Phoenix. The class was amazing, and so was the house. The owner purchased it from the original owner who was 92 years old. Big rooms, lots of windows, and huge shade trees in the back yard. I was just as interested in the class venue as I was learning something new. There were about 24 women, most had soldered before so I was afraid I was going to struggle in keeping up as there was so much to learn. The class was given in a large room that was all windows, lots of great light. It was 8 hours long and other than taking a break for a lunch that was served to us on the patio, we kept busy the entire time. No one even really wanted to break for lunch, but we did. Lunch was served buffet style on this 10ft long old farm table, with a big beautiful chandelier hanging above it,

and if that wasn't worth the trip alone, they had also set up a little melrose vintage right in the living room. Papers, charms, embellishments, tools, ribbons, and jewelry to purchase.

Don't really like to go to classes without someone I know, but made I did make some new friends from all over. It was a fun filled day, learning, sharing our stories and lots of laughing. opps... Almost forgot to show off my bracelet. I'm giving this to my daughter April who will be graduating next month from Arizona State University School of Nursing. "Dreams do come true"

Spring is Here

In Arizona, it always seems to go from winter to spring to our hot summer very quick. We took advantage of the awesome weather yesterday and headed for the park. Randall wanted to try out his crazy new europena shoes and ran jackson for a mile. I did the mile on the bike, never been a runner. The park is new and very close to our house. It's all desert landscaping, fitting for AZ and lack of rain.
Before we know it will be to dang hot to even be out side here. That's when we head to Illinois.

woke up to another beautiful arizona morning. coffee on the patio with my hubby and planing our day. Spring break week coming to and end. our not so distant retired life is going to be like spring break everyday, can't wait. Cooked breakfast then Charlie and i planned a motorcycle ride since the weather was so amazing. We went downtown Phoenix to look at some antinque stores. Lived here 30 years and never been down there. So a first for me. During our travels found the most amazing Shabby Chic store. now if that wasn't a find enough, it had two sides to the store. One was shabby chic, home decor, jewlery and one of a kinds. low and behold the second side was over the top scrapbookers dream. Can't wait to go back, they are open wed-sat. only. came home cooked steaks on the grill and watching movies tonight at home with my hubby. Here's just a peak, eye candy for sure. Definition of a perfect day.

Spring break and spending time with the grandkids. Ella and I took a shopping trip to one of my favorites, hobby lobby. Hoping they will soon open a store closer to me, hmm but maybe not. They usually have a clearence aisle and some great deals can be found here. Mine was an large empty frame. yes Im a sucker for all sizes of frames remember, especially when I can turn them into a magnet board, bullentin board. This one was regular $250 and it was 90% off, so I got it for a mere $25 bucks. how great is that. i had ella stand by it so you can see how nice and big it is. Now need to decide what to put in it, sheet metal, chalk board, peg board. maybe all 3.

I'm a sucker for picture frames. One of my favorite gifts my husband gave me several years ago was an 11x14 digital picture frame. It sits right in our family room and holds over 500 picutres. Whats' so awesome about it is every time you walk by it's displaying a different photo. I love being able to see pictures we have taken over the last 34 years. Today a birthday gift to ME. A large Martha Stewart Butterfly punch. A Sunday Target add. Remember no two butterflies are alike. Just look at the amazing colors. Do you see the Toy story bed spead, the bathing suit, the bedspread, the curtains, the sheets, the childrens clothes, pillow, dishes and yes a file cabnet. I love this punch! I may frame this.

The last one i took at paper vineyard was full and a great time even though I didnt know anyone.. I read Stephanie's blog and have always wanted to learn how to make her paper roses.

I usually try to watch Heidi's live web cast on Wednesdays nights but way to much going on. So here's the great part, you can go here and watch it when you do have time. Pause it when you want and go back and finish when your ready. Great little Birthday, celebrate book. You can change it up and give to someone special. Very quick not many supplies needed. You can use house of 3 digital downloads or use up some of those products you have just laying around waiting to turn into that original. Go to Heidi's blog and she has posted lots of pictures of two styles of the little envelope book. Here's a picture of the what i have done so far. Still need to add some embelishments and decorate the 6x9 envelopes.

Michael Putnam's class

Took a class today, given by Michael Putman and his wife Leslie. Very talented couple. Learned some new techniques and used some new ranger ink products. Love the grunge paper, and metal tape. Used some Tim Holtz embelishements. Everything was supplied at the class, didn't have to bring anything. Nice change. Everyone's piece was unique to them with their own personal touches. Lots of fun and well speant 3 hours. Always love learning something new.
